We are the
charlestown rehearsal studios tenants association
We’re your neighbor from down the hall that’s been fighting to keep these practice spaces open.

The CRS TASC serves as a volunteer advocacy group for the musician tenants at Charlestown Rehearsal Studios, located at 50 Terminal Street in Charlestown. We endeavor to protect and preserve the space for affordable music rehearsal use, nurture the internal CRS community, and connect with the external Charlestown and Greater Boston area arts community.

Preserve and Protect: Music rehearsal space across Greater Boston has long-been under fire. The CRS TASC will collaborate with a broad array of vested parties (50 Terminal building management, city officials, other non-profits, etc.) to ensure long-term and affordable access for musicians at 50 Terminal St.
Nurture: A tight-knit community of large numbers gives us power. The CRS TASC will work to build and strengthen the CRS community through a mixture of in-person and online methods.
Connect: We are not alone. By allying with other tenants associations and advocacy groups, we can create a city wide voice that is both loud and cohesive.
here’s what we’ve been up to
First, some quick context...
In January 2023 we heard rumors that the new owners of 50 Terminal St were planning to evict all the musician tenants and turn all 95 rehearsal rooms into self-storage units. With the help of arts-advocacy group #ARTSTAYSHERE we quickly organized this Tenants Association with the goal of saving these spaces. With assistance from City of Boston officials such as the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and Charlestown City Councilor Gabriela Coletta, we were able to establish a dialogue with the landlords, and have since been working to keep the spaces open and advocate for the needs of our fellow musician tenants.
“So, like, what have you actually accomplished?”
Thanks for asking. Since we formed we have:
Convinced the landlords to keep the spaces operational and make the necessary improvements to get the spaces legal in the eye of the city
As of June 2024 the building has received a temporary Certificate of Occupancy (COO) and is close to receiving the final COO
Established a direct line of communication between the tenants and the building ownership
Allowing tenants to speak as one collected voice
Negotiated on behalf of tenants to expand the operating hours of the studios
Bringing CRS to daily 9am-1am rehearsal hours gets the building in line with other rehearsal studios and increases the value of the rent we all pay
